Eli Hurt - 11th Cavalry Reunion Photo

(posted 04/08/25) - A genealogical research request involving Jerry Johnson's HORSE SOLDIERS OF THE BLUEGRASS (11th Kentucky Cavalry) was recently received via email. The researcher is a descendant of one of the several Tudors who fought in the regiment during the Civil War.

Jerry Johnson was motivated to produce a chronology of the 11th Cavalry's action during the war because of the Kentucky Hurt brother's involvement. It is an amazing story; if you haven't already read about the campaign it is linked here .

In particular Eli Hurt, the father of Tell Hurt and Tell's brothers and sister was a cavalryman in the 11th. He passed away February of 1912. Less than a decade before his passing a unit reunion photo was taken.

Eli Hurt is 5th from the left in the standing back row. It is interesting to note that at the turn of the century everyone was doing beards, mustaches and long sideburns. Guess it was just easier than shaving all the time!
