Esther Hurt Now Has a Grave Stone in Washington Cemetery

(posted 11/8/2023) - Patsy Hurt sent me the following email for posting on the Hurt Families Website...

On August 18, 1904, Esther Hurt was born to Pearl and Elmer (Tell) Hurt in Casey, Illinois. Sadly, baby Esther did not live very long and was buried in Washington Cemetery Cumberland County. She was named for her Great-Aunt Esther Wood, daughter of Robert and Telitha, who also died in infancy.

This is the same cemetery where Nancy Jane and Eli Hurt are buried. Pearl and Tell never laid a stone but her younger brothers and sisters remembered where she was buried and talked often of placing one for her. As is with life, people got busy, and a stone was never laid.

Today, with the help of Loistel Summerville and Patsy Hurt, Esther has a proper stone marking her short time on earth. She was the first child born to Pearl and Elmer (Tell) Hurt who later had 5 more children, Zola, Earl, Doris, Jan and Phillip.
