(Posted 5/16/2011) - Chris Hurt notified me this morning that Larry Hurt, who was recently diagnosed with Liver cancer, passed away at Sarah Bush Hospital Sunday evening, May 15th. I'd just posted yesterday about Larry's admission to Sarah Bush; so I've left Chris and Charlotte's previous message in place and have inserted Chris' latest posting here:

"Jon,
Larry passed away at 8pm Sunday May 15th at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. We will plan the service for early June, probably June 2 or June 3. Charlotte is the contact. Her home phone is 217-348-7777, and her e-mail is:"

"Larry was dealt many medical hardships over the past 18 years, but he endured them all and kept a positive spirit, living on his own until just the past few months with a little help from family and helpers from meals on-wheels."

"I have attached an obituary that we have started and would appreciate your posting to the hurt-family members online... Chris"

"Jon, Wanted to let you know that Larry is in the critical care unit at Sarah Bush hospital in Charleston. He was diagnosed with liver cancer about two months ago and we have had him in a nursing home in Mattoon for about the last 5 weeks. He has gone through one treatment of chemo for the cancer."

"He has gotten very weak over the past week and was brought to the hospital Thursday. Friday May 13, he developed breathing difficulty, probably due to infections in the lungs and in his blood system, and/or maybe blood clots. He is very weak, but has been stabilized for now. The prognosis is not very hopeful; it is just minute by minute or hour to hour for now."

"We would appreciate it if you could let the family know, and ask (everyone) to keep Larry in their thoughts...Chris"
